HIV Testing Week 10-16 February 2025
The aim of HIV Testing Week is to raise awareness about the importance of HIV testing and encourage everyone to know their status. HIV testing is free, easy, and confidential. By getting tested, you can help end the HIV epidemic by 2030.
Newham fully supports this initiative, striving to zero new HIV infections, zero preventable deaths and zero HIV-associated stigma by 2030. We want to ensure every Newham resident at risk for HIV have access to HIV prevention and testing.
Knowing your status is the first step in taking control of your health and protecting your loved ones.

What is HIV?
HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a virus that attacks the body's immune system, which is responsible for fighting off infections. If left untreated, HIV can weaken the immune system to the point where it can no longer defend against common illnesses and infections. This can lead to a condition called AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). HIV is mainly spread through certain body fluids, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. While there is no cure for HIV, there are treatments available that can help manage the virus and allow people with HIV to live long, healthy lives.
