Newham Supervised Tooth Brushing Programme 25/26

The Supervised Tooth brushing Programme is a national initiative targeting children aged 3 to 5 in England’s most deprived areas, aiming to reduce tooth decay by promoting daily brushing habits in early years settings like nurseries and primary schools

An introduction to Supervised Tooth Brushing

We’re thrilled to announce that Newham has been awarded national funding to launch the Supervised Tooth Brushing (STB) Programme, giving our youngest children the best possible start in life.

Tooth decay is the most common oral health problem in Newham, particularly in our most deprived communities.

The STB Programme is a fun, practical way to tackle this challenge, promoting daily brushing in early years settings and primary schools to build lifelong healthy habits.

What is involved?

  • Daily dry tooth brushing in the classroom/nursery (10–15 minutes).
  • Children aged 3–5 years with completed parental consent forms take part.
  • Trained staff supervise brushing and follow the STB protocol.
  • Settings receive all equipment and take-home packs.

What type of support is on offer?
