Looking After Your Child’s Mental Health

All children and young people have feelings—sometimes they feel happy, other times they might feel sad, worried or angry. This is normal. But if these feelings last a long time or stop them from doing everyday things, they might need extra help.

You are not alone. There is support for you and your child.

Signs to Look Out For

  • Sad or upset for many days

  • Getting angry easily

  • Not wanting to go to school

  • Not sleeping or eating well

  • Talking about feeling worthless or wanting to disappear

How You Can Help

  • Talk with them calmly and listen

  • Show love, care and understanding

  • Keep daily routines (meals, sleep, school)

  • Speak to their school or GP if you are worried
