Healthy Start card to buy food

The NHS Healthy Start card scheme is a national program that helps low-income families and pregnant women access healthy food. It provides a pre-paid card with monthly funds that can be used to purchase specific healthy foods and milk. Items like fresh, tinned or frozen fruit, vegetables and pulses such as lentils and beans, cow’s milk and first infant formula. The card can be used at most retailers that accept MasterCard.

Free Healthy Start Vitamins Scheme

All pregnant women, new mothers and children under the age of 4 years can access FREE vitamins including the recommended amount of Vitamin D in Newham.

Healthy Start vitamins are free regardless of families income or immigration status and has been funded by Public Health Newham.

Free Vitamin D for residents 60+

Newham residents aged 60 or over are eligible for free vitamin D supplements to help you stay healthy. This is because it can be harder for people aged 60 and over to get enough vitamin D.

Vitamin D helps keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy. People who don’t have enough vitamin D are more likely to fall or break bones.
