Very Brief Advice on Smoking (VBA+) Training

Assisting someone to quit smoking is a life-saving intervention. Very Brief Advice on Smoking (VBA+) is designed to promote quitting and can be delivered in almost any situation with a person who smokes in less than 30 seconds.

NICE recommend that all health and social care professionals be trained in VBA and deliver VBA opportunistically to patients.

This 30-minute module will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed so that you can feel confident in delivering VBA+. While this training module features general practice the principles of, and skills to deliver, VBA+ apply to any clinical or community setting.

After completing this training module, you will be able to:

Establish smoking status [ASK]
Advise on the best way of stopping smoking [ADVISE]
Provide options for additional support and access to stop smoking medications [ACT]
Deal effectively with patients and clients who do not feel able to quit
Complete a short assessment to consolidate your knowledge

Snip Snap Newham! Drop-in Collage Workshop

Snip Snap Newham! Come and join this drop-in collage workshop with Newham Heritage Service.

We’re inviting Newham residents of all ages and abilities to come and help us create a huge community artwork that showcases Newham’s vibrant past, present and future.

Did you know that we have over 30,000 photographs in our borough’s archive? That’s alongside newspapers, leaflets, posters, physical objects and more! Join us to use reproductions of these in this collage workshop.

Got a stash of magazines you’ve never gotten around to throwing away? Want to bring along a photograph you’d love to have included? You’re also welcome to bring your own materials!

No previous experience (or artistic skill!) is needed for this workshop! All ages welcome. You can stay for as long or as short as you want – turn up, get inspired and make your mark on this artwork!

All materials provided. Free refreshments and lunch will also be available.
