Volunteering

Community health champions are volunteers who live in Newham and want to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of Newham residents.

Becoming a Community Health Champion offers the chance to positively impact your community, grow personally, gain knowledge, feel empowered, and receive recognition for your contributions.

Social Prescribing Link Workers (sometimes called SPLWs or Social Prescribers) work in GP practices and are part of the NHS.

SPLWs are here to help you to connect with community activities, groups and services to support the practice, social and emotional needs that affect your health and wellbeing, such as housing and money.

The SPLW will work with you over a fixed number of appointments to help you to achieve your health and wellbeing goals.

The Well Newham Directory of Services (powered by Joy) is a directory of all the different health and wellbeing services you can access in Newham.

There are over 500 Newham-based services listed on the platform. From stop smoking services, to free nutrition courses and social events near you, it's now really easy to find out what's happening in your community.

Learning a new skill is a great way to challenge yourself, keep your mind active and to meet new people.

You may also want to learn a new skill to help you to get a job.

It’s really important to spend time with others, make friends and build a social and support network for yourself in your local community.

There are lots of groups in the community where you can socialise, make friends and go to events and fun activities as a group.
